Do we specialize? Only in the unusual.

Do we specialize? Only in the unusual.

What do we specialize in?

There are many things everyone can look for to resell. In fact, you can resell almost anything, but the question is “will it make money”?

We started reselling in March of 2018 with whatever we liked that was a reasonable price. We did not start with any specialty in mind.  Stephanie has experience in antiques and I like just about anything. However, the majority of what we have read or watched on reselling says you need to specialize in something.

I currently have two uncles and one cousin that sell on eBay. They were partly the reason we began reselling. One of my uncles and his son specialize in toys and that has worked out very well for them. My other uncle loves to specialize in kitchen knives, tools and taking appliances (stoves, coffee makers, etc) that don’t work and selling the parts.  It is always nice to have people to go to when I have questions about toys, tools or items I am unsure of reselling. They seem to have their specialties so what is ours?

The answer to that is the “unusual.” We like to go to auctions and find the few items that people won’t be bidding on but people may be collecting, the "hidden treasures”. For example, the Disney Postcard that is pictured was in a box and it was unusual because it has a music bubble in between the front and back of the card. It still made music too! Postcards are not something that many people bid on at auctions unless there is a collector in the crowd.  I bought the postcard lot for $13 and sold the Disney Postcard on 7-day eBay auction for $50. I still have other postcards I can still sell as well so that was a great deal for me.

Auctions allow for us to get some unusual items or things that are specific to certain collectors.  Then when we post it on eBay we can target that particular collector.

A few of the other “unusual” items we have sold over the past year: large bearings, floor mats, cameras, vintage electronics, calculators, antique china and much, much more. So I don’t know if we truly have a specialty but we have had success with some our unusual purchases and whatever peaks our interest.

Happy Treasure Hunting!
